Pressure Swing Adsorption
The oxygen plant’s flow process is designed so that the adsorbent captures highly absorbable gas components, while low or non-absorbable components pass through. There are three methods for adsorption-based air separation using swing technologies: pressure swing adsorption (PSA), vacuum swing adsorption (VSA), and mixed swing adsorption (VPSA).
In PSA, oxygen is recovered at above-atmospheric pressure and regenerated at atmospheric pressure. In VSA, oxygen is recovered at atmospheric pressure and regenerated under negative pressure. VPSA combines pressure variations from positive to negative.
Temperature & Pressure Influence
The current methods of producing gaseous oxygen from air using adsorption technology have nearly been perfected. The operation of a modern oxygen adsorption plant relies on the dependence of gas intake by the adsorbent on the temperature and partial pressure of a gas component. Consequently, the processes of gas adsorption and adsorbent regeneration can be regulated by varying the pressure and temperature parameters.
